ENG Sense and sensibility

After the death of their father, the Dashwood sisters face financial difficulties, as neither they nor their mother are entitled to inherit anything. They are therefore forced to leave their home and move in with a distant relative. The latter takes on the role of matchmaker, encouraging the two eldest sisters, Elinor and Marianne, to find suitable husbands. Elinor, calm and sensible by nature, falls in love with Edward Ferrars, a reserved man under pressure from his family. Marianne, meanwhile, determined to follow her passions, sets her heart on the charming John Willoughby, disregarding the attentions of the stoic Colonel Brandon.
